DEADLOCK IN AMERICAN SENATE FIGHT AGAINST CRUISER BILL. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. WASHINGTON, December 19. Tho fight against the Fifteen Cruiser Bill started in tho Senate late to-day, when two advocates of the Kellogg Pact blocked a .motion by the chairman (Senator Hale), of tho Naval Committee, to bring up his Bill. Senators Norris and King upset, for a moment at least, the afternoon’s move to give, the Naval Bill precedence, for when Senator Hale moved to take up the Naval Bill Senator Norris announced that he would debate the motion as long as possible to prevent a vote. Thereafter Senator King attempted to move to take up the Kellogg Treaty as a substitute for the Bill, upon which a general uproar arose, and 1 tho close of tho executive session was moved to prevent a fight. Senator Hale is expected to renew his motion to-morrow, and the fight will continue unless peace is arranged overnight, which is not considered proable.—Australian Press Association. WASHINGTON, December 19. , A cloakroom truce has been negotiated by the Senate members to end the deadlock oyer the Kellogg Pact and tho Cruiser Bill. Tho truce provides that the latter shall bo taken up as soon os pending matters are disposed of on tho Senate floor, and that consideration of the. treaty, shall wait until after tho holidays. Senator Borah consented, after becoming confident, that “ nothing would be gained by taking up the treaty now.” Ho said that neither the Bill nor the treaty could be passed before tho Christinas adjournment on Saturday, but lie indicated that ho did not intend to let : the Bill pass and tho treaty bo postponed indefinitely. The truce means that the Cruiser Bill fight will begin immediately, and will centre around President Coolidgc’s recommendation that, fifteen cruisers and ono aircraft carrier bo authorised, without the provision that they should bo completed within three years,—Australian Press Association. .
