.VAST INTERNATIONAL SCHEME ENGINEERS CONSULTING. V ' Press Association— .Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, December 19. A Paris message states that three vast engineering schemes are being studied by British, French, and Spanish engineers. They include Jinking up the proposed Channel tuiuicl with the proposed tunnel under the Strait of Gibraltar, a railway across the Sahara, which engineers claim should have results us important as the Fannma Canal, and the trans-Siberian and trans-Canadian railways. The Spanish Governments -technical Commission is now preparing a report on the proposed Gibraltar tunnel, with one of the termini at Algeciras and tho other in Spanish Morocco, t ranee s contribution will be a trans-Saharau railway costing £10,000,000, the material for which will be obtained from Germany under the Dawes plan, which may reduce the price one-third. There are millions of potential labourers available at low wages; so experts are ot the opinion that the railway will bo self-supporting in twenty-live years. It will open up cotton plantations, cattle ranches, and granaries, and will have immense potentialities il associated with suitable irrigation ’works.— Australian Press Association.
