GIFTS FROM EMPLOYEES
MR GEORGE GRAY HONOURED. The pleasant relationships existing between employer aud employee were fully demonstrated at Burnside to-day when the employees of Reid and Gray, Ltd., sprang a surprise upon Mr George Gray by presenting him with a case of pipes and pieces of silver plate suitably inscribed. The employees desired to recognise their appreciation of the action of Mr George Gray in continuing the old firm of Reid and Gray, Ltd., in building a new factory, equipped with modern machinery and electrical power, at Burnside, to express their best wishes for the success of the new firm, and to thank Mr George Gray for his kindness and good feeling to all employees. The presentation was made by Mr D. C. Cameron and supported by brief speeches from Mr H. W. Paine (foreman engineer), W. Coates (foreman carpenter), W. Harvey (foreman blacksmith), and J. Harty (foreman moulder). Mr W. P. Bennett (stationmaster) expressed the best wishes of the Burnside railway staff. In making the presentation, Mr Cameron referred to Mr George Gray’s long connection with tho old company which, for family reasons, had to be wound up and the properties sold, and complimented him on his enterprise and confidence in the future of the firm, in establishing the new works at Burnside, and on tho success which has attended the new concern since its commencement a year ago. Mr George Gray, in reply, thanked the employees for their loyalty to him during the transition and change-over period, and stated he was proud to be associated with such an efficient staff, and felt sure that the prospects were bright for the future. H would always be his aim to follow in the footsteps of his late father, by making the best quality implements and seek to maintain the high tradition of the old firm. He felt sure that, with the loyal support of all employees and the happy (eeling now existing between them, the new firm would continue to prosper. Ho expressed bis sincere thanks to the men for the generous and kindly spirit which prompted tho gifts made to him, and said that he greatly appreciated the kindly sentiments expressed. _ The presentation was accompanied with musical honours and cheors .or Mr and Mrs George Gray.
