AMERICAN POLLS
COMPLEXITY OF ISSUES TWENTY-ONE ON ONE TAPE I?. The complexity of the elections in th United State is shown in the San Francisco ‘Examiner’ , a few days before the Presidential contest. The newspaper published a list twentyone issues that the voter in California had to decide, ■in addition to casting his vote- for one or other of the five candidates for the _ Presidency—-for there were three nominations in addition to the two round which the real struggle waged. These twenty-one issues concerned proposed amendments to -the State Constitution, the list ranging from re-apportionment of legislative districts, taxation, prizefight contests, education, jurors’ fees, aid to needy blind, waiving, jury trial in 'criminal eases, down to prohibiting certain acts with animals. The most striking feature is that the list is deaded: “Clip this list out and take to polls Tuesday,” the newspaper giving the answers which it recommends should be given on the voting paper.
