Au oak tree estimated to bo 1,000 years old, weighing eighteen tons, and with mr average girth of 54in, has been recently felled at Hallingbury, Hertfordshire, and sold for over £IOO. There is a record of an oak tree on the same estate having fetched as much as £2OO many years ago.
