| MONTHLY HEETiKG Cr. .T. W. Blair (chairman) presided over tho monthly meeting of the Taieri County Council. RETORTS. The Finance Committee reported tho receipts tor tlio month to have been £422 17s sd. and recommended payment of accounts totalling £2,133 Os Id.—Adopted. The inspector of works detailed tho surfacing work and repairs to bridges for tho past month.—Received, Tho sanitary inspector reported favourably on tho slaughter houses m tho county, the piggeries at Green island Bus!), and tlio boiling down works at Green island. Tlio building permits for tho month wore detailed. — 'Received. Tho ranger reported having impounded sixteen head of cattle during the month. —As the owner of the cattle explained that it was only by accident that tho cattle wore out, he had not collected tho fees.—Received. CORRESPONDENCE. Allan Robson (Glaclhrook) wrote regarding ditch on side of road opposite his place requiring cleaning out, as the water Jlowcd over tho road on to his land.—-Referred to Cr Carruthers and inspector to make inquiries as to the responsibility for cleaning this ditch. The Public Works Department wrote regarding a proposed sheep bridge at Nenthorn Stream. Tho department desired to know what amount tlio council would contribute towards tho cost. — The council adhered to its previous decision on this matter. The Otago Electric Power Board, Dunedin, wrote regarding a petition that had been in circulation throughout tho Otago Central districts. The ’enquired 25 per cent, nad been iorthcoming. A statutory declaration for completion was enclosed. —Clerk to attend. Tho Jubileo Coal Company asked permission to pub a drive under tho old Brighton road. It would ho built to tlu"Mines Department’s requirements. —Agreed to, so long as the requirements of the Alines Department wore complied with. A, E. Scorgio wrote thanking tho council for the assistance promised in getting out stono for a road, and suggesting February next for tlio work, when his men and teams would be free for the cartage of material to tlio road, —Noted. J. F, Aubrey (Clarks Junction) wrote asking permission to put up a post and arm on the roadside near his gate, for delivery of his private mad bag. —Granted. GENERAL. A deputation of Barowood settlors, consisting of Messrs Gilmour, Lewin, and Lawson, waited on tlio council regarding road improvements. Thcv were willing to help with cartage. Cr.' Doherty recommended that £l5O he'spent.—Tho members for the riding and inspector to attend to tho matter and report to tho January meeting.
