RETURNED SOLDIERS’ ASSOCIATION

EXECUTIVE MEETING The monthly meeting of the Executive Committee of the Returned Sodiets’ Associatiau was held in the club rooms last evening. The meeting wa attended by Mr W. M'Hutchon (in the chair) and Messrs W. F. Forre |^ r Waddell, Leeden, Gordon. Skinner, Fullarton. P, S. Anderson, Walker, ana 'Three new members were elected, two transfers outward confirmed, and tour resignations were accepted. The Christmas Tree Committee imported that matters were well in liana for Christmas. A request had been made to the governing body ol I'irsc Church for the use of the grounds. . a circular for contributions was being printed, and would bo distributed to members in the course of next week. The committee was at present considering the purchase of a Father Christmas costume. —The report was adopted. The Billiards Committee reported that Mr P. M'Gregor had won the final of the billiards tournament. The general secretary of the association in Wellington sent, a copy ot a memorandum on war pensions appeals, which had come to _ hand .from the British Empire Service League. IRQ letter was referred to the Pensions Committee. . . _ The General Secretary of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, Wellington. wrote in a circular letter containing three clauses as follow; —hirst, that tho next issue of the magazine was in preparation. Contributions wcio requested. Secondly, that licadquarteis had forwarded a request for a small collection of New Zealand fauna to bo shown in London on Anzac Day. Thirdly, asking that all large badges should bo gathered in and returned as soon as possible.—Tho letter was re coived. , , . _ „ . , In tho matter of the Our Empire magazine, headquarters wrote stating that the matter would be placed before the next meeting of the executive.— The letter was received. The Secretary of the iritisn Emr'to Service League wrote asking for information regarding co-operation between the Returned Soldiers’ Association and the league in regard to visiting members of the British Legion. Tho letter suggested" that' three mouths’ houoraiy membership should bo conferred on such visiting members. —It was resolved to acknowledge receipt of the letter and give the required information to the league. Tho secretary was further instructed to write to the general secretary in Wellington and attach a copy of tho Dunedin Executive Committee’s reply. In the course, of his remarks ho mentioned that the visit had been a very successful one from every point of view. The association in Gore had an active membership of 370, and, in proportion to the population, it was probably tho strongest returned soldiers’ body in New Zealand. —It was resolved to write to tho sub-committee,' in Otago with a view to inviting representatives to an informal conference in Dunedin about the end of February. The matter was referred to the Social Committee to report.
