MACANDREW BAY NOTES

[From Otm Correspondent.] Under the auspices of the Kaik Tennis Club quite an enjoyable dance was held in the Macandrew Bay Hall on Saturday last. Tho committee, with Air Munro (the Kaik Schoolmaster) as convener, had everything suitably arranged for the occasion, and tho dance music as supplied by East’s Orchestra was all that could bo desired, adding very considerably towards tiio evening’s success.

Those of the North-east Harbour School Bazaar Committee who so generously gave their time and assistance gratuitously on behalf of obtaining funds for school improvements met in Mr Bewley’s Tea Rooms on Tuesday last, when a very pleasant evening was spent. The chairman (Mr Bewley),in remarking on the success of the the proceeds from which exceeded ah expectations, intimated that he specially wished to thank the residents of the bay for their most valued patronage. During the course of tho evening several musical items were rendered and games indulged in, after which a very pleasant evening was brought to a close with the singing of ‘ Auld Lang Syne.’ The Anglican Church congregation assembled in the Macandrew Bay Hall on Friday evening last for the purpose of bidding farewell to their very popular minister, the Rev. L. D. C. Groves, who is on the evo of relinquishing his local charge for that of a more important and larger parish at Gore. The arrangements took tho form of a tea. The Sunday school children, of whom there were some forty present (and amongst whom Mr Groves is very much loved) sat down to partake of a very fine meal, the congregation members acting in the capacity of hosts. After the children's wants had beep well catered for the congregation did likewise, the children in the meantime being well entertained in games of all kinds. Mr T. Brickell, church warden, officiated in the chair, and in a neat and appropriate speech welcomed Mrs Groves, sen. (who had attended by invitation), and eulogised the work of her son. On behalf of the Sunday school children he called on Master Ritchie Blick to present to Mr Groves a cross in appreciation; whilst on behalf of the congregation ho said it was with their unanimous good wishes, though with sincere regrets at their loss, that they were oh the ove_ of losing one who had won his way into the hearts of all his congregation. _ He trusted, in making the presentation of a Prayer Book and a suitably-engraved gold Evcrsharp pencil, that it would 1 1 ways remind him of the.ir good wishes for the future Mr Groves suitably replied on behalf of his mother, and thanked the children and his congregation for their gifts. He trusted that nt some date it would become his privilege to again be associated with ln c congregation on the Peninsula.
