TWO WOMEN FINED ILL-HEALTH AVERTS CAOL SENTENCE AUCKLAND, November 13. Mary Madeline Jessie Thompson (aged thirty-five) and Ada May Edgecombe (aged forty-five), two married women, both employed as domestic servants, admitted extensive and systematic thefts from city shops in the Police Court to-day. They jointly pleaded guilty to stealing goods valued at £105; Mrs Edgecombe alone to the theft of goods of the value of £3B. When Mrs Edgecombe’s house was searched stolen goods worth £l4O were found there. But for the fact that one of the accused was ,in ill-health, the Magistrate (Mr Hunt) said he would have sentenced both to two years’ imprisonment, Edgecombe was fined £4O. and Thompson £2O, ten days being allowed in which to pay.
