EARL JELUGOE’S MESSAGE BROTHERHOOD SPIRIT OF 1914 (.Pjkk United Press Association.J WELLINGTON, November 10. The Now Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association has received the following greetings from Earl Jciheoc:— The thoughts of all in the Empire ou this tenth anniversary of the signing of tho armistice will turn with gratitude to the men who brought victory to our arms in tho Great War, and perhaps most of all to those who gave their lives in achieving victory. But all will, I hope, dwell upon one ot tho reasons which brought about that victory, and at the same time demonstrated to the world the unity of the British Empire. Who can forget the magnificent response made by the whole Empire to the call to arms? From all parts of the world men came— Britain’s sons and the descendants of Britain’s sons—to help tho Mother Country in her struggle to protect the weak and to uphold the sanctity of a signed agreement. It is with this thought in my mind that 1 send warm greetings to the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association, in the belie! that in the British Empire Service League we have an organisation that will foster the spirit of brotherhood which \tas so strongly evident in 1914. LOCAL SERVICES Church services will commence tomorrow ot 10.45 a.m., to allow of the two minutes’ silence at 11 o’clock. At the United Congregational Church tho Rev. C. Maitland Elliss’s subject in the morning will be * Tho Challenge of Armistice to Christendom.’ ‘Some Armistice Day Recollections’ is the subject of address by Mrs A. Watson at the Spiritualist Church. At Knox Church at 10.45 the Rev. Tulloch Yuille will conduct a service, and also in the evening at 6.30. At the evening service some of the Returned Soldiers’ Choir will sing, and Miss Mary Pratt and Miss Stuart Mitchell will be the soloists. Air Yuille’s subject at night will be ‘ Uniting the Sundered Nations.’ At First Church the service on tho tenth anniversary of Armistice Day will begin at 10.45, and the two minutes’ silence will be observed at 11 o’clock, and it will be followed by the sounding of ‘ The Last Post ’ and ‘ Reveille ’ by Bugler Carey. There will bo an official attendance of the City Council, officers of the First Battalion, Otago regiment, officers and ratings of tho Royal Naval Volunteer reserves, tho Ambulance Brigade, Toe H Group, and tho Boy Scouts and Wolf Cubs. Tho service will bo conducted by the Rev. Dr E. N. Herrington. The subject of the sermon is 1 Tho Moral Equivalent of War.’ In the evening his subject will be ‘ Christian Citizenship Lessons of the Presidential Election.’ A service will be held in tho Central Mission, Octagon Hall, at 6.30. The Rev. W. Walker will preach on ‘The Transformation of the Sword.’ The St. Kilda Band will play several selections and lead the singing of well-known hymns. Miss Agnes Guy will render a vocal sob, and Mr Geo. Christie will play ' The Lost Chord ’ on tho cornet. Tho Rev. F. E. Foot will preach in the morning, at 10.45 The Rev. H. E. Bellhouse will conduct the service at Trinity Methodist Church, Stuart street, at 10.45, preaching on 1 The Problem of World Peace.’ In tho evening his subject will be ‘ The Tearings Asunder of Life.’

In the evening at the Moray Place Congregational Church a service of remembrance will be conducted by the minister, the Rev. Albert Mead, M.A., and Mr Msrtley Peake will sing ‘ Christ in Flanders,' by Ward-Stcphens. The Rev. E. S. Tuckwell will hold a service at the Hanover Street Baptist Church, at 10.45. At the Citadel, Dowling street, Commissioner Hay, 0.8. E., leader of the Salvation Army in New Zealand, will conduct the three services. The morning service will commence at 10.45, and Armistice Day will be observed. The ‘ Last Post ’ will be played by Bandsman 0. Judd. Commissioner Hay will deliver the address. In the afternoon, at 3 o’clock, Commissioner Hay will deliver an address of vital importance, entitled, 1 National Destroyers.’ The chair at this meeting will be taken by Mr H. L. Tapley, and His Worship the Mayor (Mr W. B. Taverner) and other prominent citizens will eupport the commissioner. At the evening service Commissioner Hay will conduct the final meeting of the scries. TO BE BROADCAST Important commemoration services will be held in London, and will be broadcast for the dominions by Station SSW. In all there will be four services, as follows:—Cenotaph, at 11 p.m. (Sunday); Trafalgar Square, 2.30 a.m. (Monday); St. Martins, 7.55 a.m. (Monday); Albert Hall, 9.5 a.m. (Monday) New Zealand summer time. Station 4YA will be on the air continuously from 11 o’clock to-morrow night for the purpose of re-broadcasting SSW, and if reception is satisfactory each of the services will bo broadcast.
