THE RACING DESCRIBED [Srrci.u. to tuu ' Stau.’J CHRISTCHURCH, November 9. Tho New Zealand Metropolitan Club was rewarded with summer-liko weather for tho concluding day’s . programme, and tho public assembled in large numbers. Tho track was again in splendid order, and fast times were registered in each event. A very interesting race was provided by the Governor’s Handicap, for which Nourrnahal was made a better favourite than Nelson Boy. Nourrnahal was never in a winning position, hut Nelson Boy recorded a very attractive victory. He took charge going out of the straight the second time, and led Young Carbine, Lady Fan, Nelson APKinney, and Sarsaparilla into _ the straight. In one of tho best finishes ol the meeting Nelson Boy held his place to heat Young Carbine by a neck, with Sarsaparill a head away, the same distance in I rout of Lady Fan, with Happy Rosa nest. Sarsaparilla was tho unlucky contestant, as he skipped at tho home turn and then finished on tho best of the placed division.

A good field conk'sU'il the saddle e\nit, the Enlie-id Handicap, Jean M’Elwyn belli" made a better favourite than Auguste"’ Dillon. General Bingen took charge I tom Darknitc, Araaris, Auguste Dillon, Epigram, and i Golden Devon going out of the straight the first time, and the same order was maintained 'along the back stretch. General Bingen and Auguste Dillon were together clear of Golden Devon, Darknite, Bonny Logan, and Jean M'Elwyn entering the straight, and the leading pair had a great tussle_ in the run home, General Bingen holding his rival safe to beat him by a neck. The favourite finished on with a, burst of speed, and was catching the leaders over tho final stages, but was unable to got up, filling third place, half a length away. Bonny Logan was next, with Darknitc and Native Chief next. Native Chief, from the back mark, was slow to move off, but ho unwound marked speed, and was up vitli the hunch at the finish. * * * * Another interesting race was witnessed in the Handicap. Cardinal Logan, making his first appearance at tho meeting, was_ elected favourite, but again tbe public cried in its judgment. Talaro, who was allowed to go out fourth choice, improved on his two previous efforts, and registered a sterling performance in getting up in time to gain victory in the last few strides. He was in fourth place behind Vesuvius, Koliara, and Jewel Pointer entering the straight, with Jack Potts and Waitalu Girl in close attendance In the run home Vesuvius and Koliara, the pacemakers up to this stage, cried content, and 'laiaro, Jack Potts and Waitaki Girl engaged in an exciting finish, Taiaro gamin" the verdict by a length from Jack Potts, who was onlv a neck in rront of Waitaki Girl ‘Koliara weakened into fourth place with Jewel Pointer and Vesuvius •>ext’ Jack Potts and Cardinal Logan lost "round at the start, and Waitaki Girl 'was slow to move off, otherwise the finish would have boon even more interesting. * * * * Bankhead was made a pronounced favourite for the Australasian Handicap, but he failed to go oil and tailed the field throughout. Mac Dillon was responsible for making the pace over the greater part of tho journey, and it was not until the straight was entered that he surrendered his position. At thii point Dundas Boy and invader passed him, and Laplander also joined in the issue. Invader wore down Dundas Boy in the concluding stages, and beat him by half a length, and Laplander, finishing with' a strong burst, was a similar distance away in third nlaco. Mac Dillon was close up fourth, in front of Sahib and Baynut. Although Invader won in impressive stvle, Laplander was unlucky in not getting a deal run at the top of the straight; otherwise lie would have made the winner’s task much more severe. * * VT * Sister Beatrice carried lire public confidence in tho trotters’ race, tho Middleton Handicap, but once more a favourite failed to fill a place. Tho

fourth choice Maxegin, began smartly, and although he went to a break after covering a furlong ho quickly settled down again i and Ted throughout. He was followed over tho final circuit by Sister Beatrice, Audominion, Elzear, Native Star, and Money Spider, and led into the straight clear of this division. Both Elzear and Money Spider issued determined challenges in the run home, but could make no impression on Maxegin, wht crossed tho line with a length and a-halt advantage, Elzear heating Money Spider by a neck for second honours. Sister Beatrice was a fair fourth, with Native Star and Audominion next. Sister Beatrice had every chance, but never actually threatened the loaders. » * » Tho public had a turn of fortune in making Pageant a good favourite for the Hornby Handicap, as ho prevailed after a determined finishing run. After a circuit had been covered Sahib and Avenger were in command from William the Great, Jolly Chiracs, Quality, and Pageant. William the Great appeared to bo the winner nearing the post, but Pageant and Jolly Chimes swept past him in tho deciding few strides, the verdict going to Pageant by a neck margin, a head in front of William tho Great, with Avenger another neck away. Sahib and Golden Bubbles were next. Pageant was responsible for an outstanding performance, as he was in a bad position three furlongs from homo, and met with trouble by Quality breaking in front of him. Once ho got through in the run homo, however, ho gathered in the leaders in line style. Golden Bubbles was the slowest to leave the mark, and then finished close up to the placed division. * » » The Lyttelton Handicap was robbed of much interest by an unfortunate mix-ii)) three furlongs from home. Harold Bunvood, who had acted as pacemaker to this point, broke in front of a bunched field, and Event, Countryman, and Rebel fell. Genuine was ther. loft in front, and led into the stiaight from Orphan, Mate o’ Aline, Acre, and Glideaway. Ju an exciting tusslo Aero finished on the best, and beat Mate o’ Aline by half a length, with Genuine a length away, Glideaway was fourth. Pluto and Orphan collided in the straight, and both were pulled up. This was the second win gained-by tho Hutt trainer, B. Jarden, on behalf of Alcssrs Kelly and Morn son. « * » » Ju tho concluding event, tho Sr nr-tors’ Handicap, those investors who went for a recovery did not faro well, as tho two first favourites failed to make a return. Talent and Epigram were in tho van throughout, and led into tho straight from Golden Devon, Western King, and Dalmeny. In one of tho best finishes of tho meeting Epigram outrivallcd Talent at the business cud, and secured the honours by a short 'head margin. Western King was a bare length away next, with Dalmeny and Author Jinks close up'next. Golden Devon fell 200yds off the post, an 1 Logan Holm crashed over him, the driver of tho latter receiving slight injuries as a result of being thrown on the rails. Black Admiral’s gear broke after going a furlong, and lie was pulled no ¥■ * * » At an adjourned meeting of the Judicial Committee it was decided that tho committee was not satisfied with tho driving of Native Prince in the Victoria Handicap on tho first day ot tho meeting, and that J. S. Shaw, the diivcr, be cautioned to be more careful in the future.

Later in tiio afternoon, after the Christchurch Handicap was run, the stewards lined U. W. Aker £lO for defiance of the committee, and £2 for not putting in his application for change of driver in time. F. Holmes was also fined £2 for not applying for change of horseman hi Bonny Logan in the Enfield Handicap. dtahuhu trot acceptors Introductory Handicap, 300sovs, Urn.—Golden Huia, Great Way.
