A man met a negro who r-uid he could cat four loaves, four pounds of cheese, and drink four quarts of beer at on© sitting. After watching him perform the feat tho man made a bet with a friend that tho negro could repeat tho performance. A time was arranged, and the negro started on Ins meal. All went well until three parts of tho food and drink had been consumed, when Sambo confessed himself beaten. “ You rascal. cried his backer, angrily. “You’ve made me lose five pounds.” “ Well, boss,” replied Sambo, “I don’t know what’s wrong with me. .1 was all right at de rehearsal dis morning.”
