BOWLING

ANNUAL MEETING OF DELEGATES The annual meeting of delegates recently elected by thb different bowling clubs attached to the Dunedin Centro was held in the Y.M.O.A. Rooms on Saturday night. Mr D. M. Fasticr (president of the centre) was in the chair, and there was an attendance of about forty. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. After the formal reception of last year’s report and balance-sheet the Chairman stated that the next business was the election of officers, and he had great pleasure in nominating Mr R. H. Todd (Cavorsham Club) for that position. Mr Todd had done excellent work for years past on the Centre Executive, and had well earned the position of president.—There was no other nomination, and Mr Todd was declared elected with applause.—On taking the chair Mr Todd paid compliments to Mr Pastier, who, he said, had been an ideal president. Ho trusted that ho would be able to follow worthily in bis footsteps. The other officers elected were:— Vice-president, Mr D. C. Cameron, jun. (St. Kilda); hon. treasurer, Mr H. Rowley (Leith); executive—Messrs R. H. Ledlie (Anderson’s Bay), W. Milhn (Balmacewen), R. Proctor (Caledonian). J C Whitelaw (Dunedin), W. Alien (Fairfield), J. C. Lindsay (Green Island), W. Cavzer (Kaikorai), J. Allan (Kaituna), W. Neill (Mornington), H. J. Duncan (North-east Valley), J. A. Mlvinnon (Otago), J. W. Bannerman (Outram), W. Culbert (Port Chalmers). W. J. Worthington (Roslyn), W. Connor (Scacliff), D. M. Fustier (St.Clair), J. D. Haigh (Taieri), B. W. Fell (Waikouaiti), J Vcitch (West Harbour ). THE LEVY, Mr James Allan (Kaitura) moved—- “ That the centre levy on members of clubs be increased by Is per member for the ensuing season.” He said that the motion emanated from the executive. Last season the credit balance had gone back to the extent of £33, and this loss would have been much larger had it not been that bowlers with motor cars had come to the executive’s relief with the free use of cars, and that their lady friends had helped in entertaining the visitors. The executive had always to depend upon a profit from the Easter tournament to carry _ on, which he thought was a wrong principle, flayers in tournaments should not bo called upon to pay general expenses. Ordinary members should pay for those. Mr D. C. Cameron (St. Kilda) seconded, and sugested that _an addition might be made to the motion that the amount raised by the extra levy be set aside for entertainment purposes only. Mr Allan agreed to this, and after some discussion, in the course of whicli several delegates representing small clubs objected to the increase, and Mr W. Connor (Scacliff) asked for special exemption for Waikouaiti and Scacliff Clubs, the motion was carried, Mr Connor’s suggestion being agreed to. CONDITIONS OF CONTESTS. There was a good deal of difference of opinion when it came to settling the number of interclub games to be played during the coming season. Mr G. A. Nelson (Dunedin) moved that it be an instruction to the incoming executive that not more than ten Saturday matches be played during the season. Mr Cameron expressed the hope that such a proposal would not be passed hastily. To the ordinary bowler the Saturday games were the greatest attraction of the season. Mr Fasticr was in favour of a drastic reduction. Mr Worthington (Roslyn) opposed the motion. _ ' . Mr Sunderland (Kaikorai) said he favoured each club meeting every other chib in the competition. ! ' An amendment, proposed by Mr W. F. Abel (Kaituna), seconded by Mr J. Allan, that it bo an instruction to the executive that Iho number of Saturdays (u bo devoted to matches he reduced from fourteen to twelve was carried. Conditions for the four-rink championship wore left to the executive to arrange. It was decided that a. tournament be held at Easter time, on the same lines as the previous gathering. On the motion of Mr V. Connor, seconded by Mr G. Will (Cavcrshnm), it was resolved that the champion of champions competition be played on the sudden-death principle. SYSTEM OF SCORING.

On behalf of the Caledonian Club Mr J. Abbott moved, without comment, that the present system, of scoring points in the Saturday competition he rescinded, and that the system of two years ago be reverted to. The motion- was seconded by Mr Procter. Mr Sunderland said be bad an amendment to propose which be thought would make a perfect scheme. (Laughter.) His amendment was as follows: —“That the system of awarding points in the interclnb competition he based on wins by rinks instead of by sections, as under; A club entering eighteen rinks would score 1 point per rink for a win, maximum 18 points; fifteen rinks. 1 1-5 points per win; twelve rinks, H points per win; nine rinks, !? points per win; six rinks, 3 points_per win; three rinks, 6 points per win.’’ Mr Jacobsen and Mr Nelson urged that the system which was in operation last year "should be given a further trial. Mr Sunderland’s proposal was rejected, and it was decided that the present system bo retained. GENERAL. It was resolved that the champion of champions contest and the final of the four-rink games bo played on different days

A motion that it be a recommendation to the excutivo that bowling : matches be postponed on any Saturday : on which overseas cricket teams are I playing in Dunedin was carried, i Mr Cameron moved a«_ follows: 1 “That the Dunedin Bowling Centre regrets that the Summer Time Bill was not carried in Parliament, and that the mayor be respectfully requested to conj vene a public meeting of all interested in summer time to consider the question of taking some united action in regard to making summer time apply to Dun--1 ndin and suburbs.”—The motion _ was seconded by Mr W. Abel and carried. Complimentary reference was made to the services rendered to the centre during the year by tbe retiring president (Mr H. M. Fastier), the retiring members of the executive (Messrs W. T, Hcnaghan, J. M'Gregor, J. Tonkin, G. L. Scott, E. T. G. Falconer, W. G. Love, G. R. Swift, and A. J. Sullivan), the secretary (Mr R. Hanning), and the Press. At a meeting of the executive held after the meeting of delegates, it was decided to hold meetings on the third Monday in each month.
