GREAT IRISH TENOR

Competent musical authorities are confidently proclaiming the young Irish tenor, Alfred O'Shea, as the rival of John M'Cormack, and several assort that he surpasses the latter as an interpreter of Irish ballads. O’Shea left Sydney—where ho was born—to study voice production under the best Continental masters, and after several years’ bard work he made public appearances in the different art countries of Europe. But it was not till 1922 that he came into great prominence, when he gave a series° of concerts in London. These aroused such widespread interest that Mr Nevin Tait returned to London from the Continent, where he had been making contracts, and after healing O’Shea sing immediately engaged him as one of the principal tenors for the Melba-Williamson Grand Opera Company. It is history now now Melba selected him to sing Rudoifo to her Mimi, and how ho electrified Jus audiences and astounded the 'critics. Rost and further study followed, and then a triumphal concert tour of Australia, and now he is repeating this triumph in New Zealand. Mr O’Shea will give throe concerts in the Princess Theatre on Wedncsdav, Friday, Saturday, August 1, 3. and L The box plan opens on Friday, July 3/.
