MACDONALD OUTPOINTS MONSON.
SYDNEY, July 20. Lachie Macdonald (11.1) outpointed Monsou (11.5) over fifteen rounds at the Leichhardt Stadium. Tho New Zealander forced the fighting, but was unable to score with heavy punches owing to Monson’s persistent clinching. ’ In the eighth round a collision of heads opened Macdonald’s eye, and in the ninth a series of lefts and rights dropped him for nine, but ho won easily over the remainder o_f tho bout. TO-NIGHT’S CONTEST. Tom Ileeney is making New Zealand boxing history in America, and at home Johnny Leckie is \ doing his share by endeavouring to stall off the challenges of the Australian and English invaders. Ho will meet lus fourtcvnli; professional opponent at tho Drill Hall to-night, when he is to meet with the fast and clever English feather-weight, Norman Radford, for a purse of £2OO. Action from start to finish should bo tho keynote of this fifteen-round bout, and as thrilling a contest as has been seen in Dunedin for a long time is anticipated. The question of who is going to win is one that is occupying the minds of most boxing enthusiasts at the present time, and the opinions aro fairly evenly divided. Both men have fine records, bnt Radford has been in the professional ring longer, and his initial appearance in New Zealand is being awaited with considerable interest. Good preliminaries will precede tho star contest, and the Ist Otago Battalion Band, under tho conductorship of Lieutenant Llew U. Asten, will be in attendance.
