After waiting at Port Chalmers till the gale had subsided, the steamer Northumberland left there this morning for Bluff - . . The Kaponga was to sail this afternoon for Timaru and Westport. Thu Wingatni arrived yesterday afternoon from /Auckland and Lyttelton to unload and load general cargo. She was expected to sail this afternoon lor Oamaru, Timaru, Lyttelton, Picton. and Auckland. Tho Karctu loft last evening for Lyttelton and Oamaru to finish discharging general cargo from, Australia. She will then go to Sydney. Tho Waipiata was to leave Auckland to-day for Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin with general cargo. Tim Union Company advises that the Waitomo left Newcastle yesterday morning for Bluff and Dunedin. The Brcezo is to load here on Monday for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington. Picton. and Wanganui. Tho Shaw, Savill, and Albion steamer M a liana is due at Auckland from London on July 30. The vessel has 2oU tons of explosives and general cargo lor there. The rest of her cargo is for Wellington and Lyttelton. Tho Maui Pomarc, which arrived at Lyttelton on Wednesday from Apia and Niue Island, is commanded by Captain N. H. AUDonald, formerly of the Hinemoa. The chief officer is Mr F. Iv. Alien, who was in command of the ship on her voyage from Liverpool. THE FERRY SERVICE. Tiie Maori, from Wellington, arrived at Lyttelton at 7 a.m. to-day, and southern passengers and mails caught tho express. PORT DUNEDIN AT LONDON. Tho Commonwealth and Dominion Line's motor ship Port Dunedin, which sailed from Wellington on May 29, is reported to have reached London last Sunday PAKEHA FROM HOME. With general merchandise from West Coast ports of Great Britain, the Shaw, Savill, and Albion steamer Pakeha is scheduled to reach Auckland from Liverpool on July 31. WARNING TO MARINERS. The local Superintendent of Mercau- ' tile Marine warns mariners that the scow Herald, with a cargo of coal, is presumed- to be adrift in a sinking condition in the Hauraki Gulf or beyond. She was last seen nine miles off Flat Rock, Kawau Island, .at 9 a.m. on Saturday last, and was then drifting towards Great Barrier Island A search for her has been unsuccessful. Masters of vessels are therefore warned that she will, if still afloat, be a danger to navigation, and a sharp look-out should be kept for her. PORT HUON’S PASSENGERS. The C. and D. Line motor ship Port Huon, which arrived at Auckland on Wednesday morning from London, brought- the following passengers:— Dr A. Stewart (medical officer), Mr L D P. Murray, Mrs R. Stewart, Mrs E. L. Rixon, Mrs E. E. Johnston, Miss D. P Scvmour. and Mr M. O. st.She also brought cargo lor Auckland, Wellington, and New Plymouth. ; THE P.AKEHA. The cargo is for discharge at Auckland. Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. . A mishap bofel the vessel when she was Homeward-bound from New Zealand last voyage. On her arrival in tho Thames on May 26 she encountered a dense fog, and had to anchor. At about 3 o’clock in the morning shortly after the anchor hadi been let go, sho was struck by the steamer Palebang, which was moving very slowly in the fog to. an anchorage. The bluff of tho Palebang’s bow struck tho Pakeha’s stern, which was bent by the impact, and some of the plates in tho bow were damaged. Tho Palebang was more seriously damaged, and had to return to port to dock for repairs. Repairs to the Pakeha were carried out while sho was unloading in London. AEROPLANES MEET SHIP. According to an announcement by Mr J. S. Mahool, passenger traffic manager of tho International Mercantile Marino .Company, arrangements wore made with the French Air Union to have passenger airplanes in readiness at Cherbourg to transport to Paris passengers from the White Star liner Majestic, from New York. The ’planes were Farman-Goliath machines with seating capacity for ten passengers. The arrangement, which was in response to tho growing demand for rapid transportation, is probably the forerunner of a regular schedule of ’planes to supplement tho express steamers. VALACIA WITH CARGO. The local agents for the C. and D. Line’s chartered steamer Valacia (Messrs J. W. Swift and Co.) adviso that the vessel was to leave Lyttelton at 4 o’clock this afternoon for Dunedin, where she is duo to-morrow to unload general cargo from Home. She will sail about Tuesday or Wednesday for Port Kcmbla. WILLESDEN FROM JUAN DE NOVA Tlio steamer Willesden is due at Bluff i about July 32 from Juan do Nova with a cargo of Seychelles guano. /About 3.201' tons will he discharged at Bluff, and the balance at Dunedin and Lyttelton.
