LEADING TEAMS WIN There were no surprises in the twelfth series of games in tho Division 1 competition, tho leading teams all winning. H. 5.0.8. retain a one point load from Maori Hill and Northern, but Seaeliff have a game to play, their match against Mosgiel haying to be postponed on account of tho ground at Seaeliff being unplayable. The following table shows the relative positions of the teams:

MAORI HILL JUST WIN. A patchy game was witnessed at Momugton, where Maori .Hill boat the home team by 2 goals to 1. Hill opened tho attack, but for the iivst live minutes the rallies were indecisive until Morningtou’s forwards broke through. Taking his time, M‘Gregor (outside right) opened the scoring by kicking into tho corner of the net. Mornington 1, Maori Hill 0. ...

Tho next attack by Hill looked dangerous, but the homo team saved from a heavy shot. Mornington went down to Hill’s goal, where Fleming skied a shot. Hill returned, and. following some clever placing. Oliver kicked over tlio goal. The ground was very greasy, which militated against sureness in ball control and placing. Mornington, however, were more at home, till, after a midfield battle, the Hill forwards broke through. Johnstone seemed likely to <net the ball, but Rankine saved well, although the homo team’s supporters had several moments of anxiety. Somo pretty head play was seen in midfield, after which Mornington harassed Hill. The Blues kept up their- persistent thrusts, but Hill obtained relief when M'Callion, making an attempt at goal, drove wide. Long kicks took Maori Hill downfiold, where Johnstone failed to catch Rankine in possession. Both sides wore endeavoring to open up the play, but the respective centre halves, Brown and Munro, were functioning •splendidly. When Hill wor© advancing, Balk was struck in the chest and was compelled to retire, the visitors playing Cm with ten men. Maori Hill continued to press, the "next incident being when Rankine had no difficulty in clearing a shot by Carso. The attack was renewed, and from a good way out Thompson (right half) made an attempt, Rankine again clearing. Balk took his place on the held again. Mornington ultimately broke through, but their forwards wore slow to take advantage of the weak fielding of the long kicks by the Maroon backs. Mornmgton’s inside right, M'Callion, had to go off with an injured ankle. Hill pressed. Oliver’s shot hit the cross bar, and the rebound baffled Rankino, Johnstone, who was standing close up, slamming tlio hall into the bar corner. Mornington 1, Maori Hill 1. Tlio iioxt attack saw the ball pass from the Hill halves to Carso, who centred to I Johnstone. The centre’s kick was stopped by Rankine, but a rush by Proctor compelled tlio goalie to concede a corner. In the following tussle in front of Mornington’,s goal Hill were really dangerous, but offside pla,v spoilt au almost certain goal. M'Callion returned to the field. The ball was 'transferred to M'Gregor, who was unopposed in his rush into Hill’s territory. Ho made a great attempt to goal. Callaghan pushing it over the top bar. Maori Bill were on the attack when tho spell ended, without any additional scores.

On resuming, Moruington opened the attack, Callaghan clearing a good shot from Munro. Hill immediately turned the tables. Johnstone was handy, but Braithwaito cleared. Hill pressed, and Carso centred. The Maroons were offside. The attack was maintained, ami Rankino turned another shot over the bar. Hemmed m, Momington sot up a strong defence, but Balk ultimately forced through to score a good goal. Maori Hill 2, Moniington 1. Moniington took play to Hill’s area, where Watkins crossed with a kick to tho goal mouth. Callaghan was bustled and slipped, and in tile ensuing scramble Mornintgon goaled. After allowing the goal, tho referee penalised Mornington, tho free kick giving muchneeded relief for the defenders. Hill had a brief turn at attack, tho shot by Balk being well saved by Rnnkine. The Blues surged down, and Callaghan was indeed lucky in clearing after ho had slipped. A torrid attack was made by Hill from the right wing, Rankino carrying off some fine clearances. The following play was unexciting, there being a want of finish to tho movements on both sides. Proctor sent in a heavy shot, which Rankino saved cleverly. Moniington attacked strongly, but-they were repelled, Hill’s counter-attack ending when Proctor skied over the cross-ban Mornington were kept on tbo defensive. Tbo ball travelled across field from Balk, to Proctor to Carso, whoso shot was a foot wide. Towards tho end, the game became very willing, and three players went very close to being ordered off. Moniington finally made a complete breakaway. Hill were given an anxious time till Munro lost Mornington’s clianco of evening up tho scores by miskicking when he had a royal chance of goaling. Fleming made a fine effort from 30yds out, the ball being only inches too high. Time was called with tho Hill defending and' the scores:— Maori Hill ... 2 Moniington 1 Mr W. Sudden was the referee. NORTHERN v. TECHNICAL OLD BOYS. All through tho Northern-Technical Old Boys game on the Ova) the former played with bettor combination, and deserved their win by 9 goals to 3. At times, especially in the second spell, Old Boys attacked hotly, but on many occasions they found tho opposing backs too strong. , Northern led al! the attacks at the beginning of the first half, and* within five minutes after tho start had two goals to their credit. In one of the attacks the ball went right up to Holden. in tho Technical goal, when M'Cormack cut in and shot into tho net. Northern 1, Technical Old Boys 0. __ Play was barely restarted when Northern were away again, and M'Lean

this time netted.-. His shot from the wing was a splendid -one. Northern 2, Technical Old Boys 0. A further forward movement by the Northern players took the ball into the Technical area again, and M'Lean was again responsible for a goal. Northern 3, Technical Old Boys 0. Technical then pressed forward in a combined effort, which, however, fell to pieces before reaching the Northern goal. Another attack saw Northern invade The Technical quarters, whore Perry passed over to M'Cormack, who succeeded in sharing, goal honours with M'Lean. Northern 4, Technical Old oys 0.

Repeated attempts by Technical to open a score proved fruitless, and Northern then overpowered them, taking play to tho'bther end, of the field, where M'Tavish, in front of tho goal mouth, passed Holden. Northern 5, Technical Old Boys 0. Tlfero was no further score at half-time. On resuming Technical showed up bettor than previously, and before very many minutes had elapsed Lindsay had scored neatly. Northern 5, Technical Old Boys 1. Tbo next score came with Northern talcing up the offensive and charging Technical, M'Cormack adding yet another goal to his list. Northern 6, Technical Old Boys 1. M'Tavish followed up soon after with tho seventh goal for Northern. Following a penalty kick for Northern the gamo was centred round the Technical posts, where M'Dowel! headed neatly, giving Holden no chance. Northern 8, Technical 1. Cross kicking near Northern’s goal resulted in Drydo i shooting past M'Quarrio, and increasing Technical’s score to 2 goals. Towards tho end of tho gamo M'Cormack sent a beautiful shot into Holden, who failed to stop it. Northern 9, Technical Old Boys 2. Just before tho reforoo blew the whistle Patton succeeded in securing another goal for Technical, and the game ended;— Northern 9 Technical Old Boys 3 Mr F. Smith was referee, HIGH SCHOOL OLD BOYS v. The scorers for Old Boys were Kilpatrick (who goalod in front of the. mouth), Douglas, Latimer (who shot into au open goal) Chapman (four altogether), and Patrick (who netted soon after the start of tho second half). About halfway through this spell Pattrick had to retire with an injured leg, but even with only ten men against them Y.M.C.A. could not score. Midi School Old Boys ... A Y.M.C.A 0 GAME POSTPONED. INTERIIOUSE COMPETITION. Two interesting games were witnessed on the Oval on Wednesday. Tramways met Macky, Logan, and won by 5 goals to 0, and thoroughly deserved their win, playing with sound defence and good combination throughout tho game. Although this was Macky, Logan’s iivst match, they gave quite a good display of football. The Tramway’s team has greatly improved since its first match. In tho other match Lutterworth's met tho Combined Bakers, and tho latter won by 4 goals to 2. This team has also improved. Buttenvorth’s turned out for tho first time this season .
