Sir Robert Had field, when presiding over the annual meeting of Hadfields, Limited, stated that from 1908 to 1927 inclusive there had been, in Great Britain, about 16,000 separate labour disputes, involving more than 18,000,000 working days. This was equivalent to something like 300 years’ operations at the works of Hadfields, Limited, with their 5,000 employees. He estimated this loss in terms of money at £615,000,000.
