CAVEESHAM. Gaversham ran from Wakari School, a large number participating considering the unpleasant weather conditions. The paper was in the capable hands or J. H. Williamson and D. Rowlatt, who were responsible for ai excellent trail, which led along Leith Valley road, through a ploughed paddock for about a quarter of a mile, until the golf links were reached The trail continued across country through a slwrt stretch of bush, again crossing the Leith Valley road, and continuing on round the higher country at the rear of the school until the Wakari Sanatorium was reached. A , fast run home was held over the last half-mile,; 'Lindsay being first home, closely followed by Wood, Clark, and Leader in that order. DUNEDIN. The Dunedin Club held a trial run over the five-mile course at Wingatui. The muster was not as big as could have been wished for. Prominent among the runners were J. Cameron and the Smith brothers. MORNINGTON. The Mornington Club ran from the St. Clair Baths. The paper was in the hands of C. Chirnside and H. Blackwood, and there was a good muster, running under the whistle of the captain, I. Chirnside. The trail led along Lover’s lane to a point just past East Park, where it went through the lupins and on to the beach, From hero it went round Lawyer’s Head and along Tomahawk Beach, returning by the road to the top of the hill past the cemetery. It then went across some paddocks and newly formed streets to Tahuna The pack split up just before Tahuna was reached, the fast pack going ahead. From £>t. Hilda the fast pack had a fast run home, in which D. Henderson, A. Chirnside, and C. ; Dirt came in together at the front. 1 The first home in the slow pack was E. Lamb, followed closely by S White ' and A Robson. | ANGLICAN, I Anglican held their five-mile crosscountry scratch race and sealed-handi-cap for the Connell Cup at Wingatui. A small field of twelve starters con- ! tested the race, but the contest was i nevertheless full of interest. Connell ; and Green took the lead at the start, : but the other' competitors hung to ! them well for the hrst two miles. By , the time the Janefield road was reach- • ed, however, Connell had established a comfortable load on Green, who was closely followed by Holmes, Gale, and Moodio. This order was maintained for most of the second lap, but Green dropped back slightly, and Price comi menced to move up from the rear of • the field. M'Crao, ran up the Leith Valley, and from there on to Mount | Cargill, coming back via the_ Leith i road and Ross Creek Reservoir. In 1 the run home those prominent were i M'Crae, Kennedy, H. Smith, Adkins, ‘ and Benzoin. 1 CARGILL ROAD METHODISTS. Cargill Road Methodists held their 5railo championship at Forbury Park. Thirteen runners faced the starter (J. W Kerr) to adverse wind and a heavy I track. L. MTveich took the lead, followed by E. Ridley, with the rest well | hunched. On leaving the track R. j Sanders had taken the lead, followed 1 by L. M'Kcich, B. Ridley, and B. j Pearce. The second time out Pearce i had the lead, with the rest well strung ' out. Entering the course for the finish L. MTveich had established a good I lead, winning easily from B. Pearce, i with R. Sanders and E. Ridley close up. Results: L. MTveich 1, B. Pearce 1 2, R. Sanders 3. R. Sanders won tho I sealed handicap and N. Blackburn was tho first novice home. LEITH. Leith held their five-mile championship and sealed handicap at Wingatui under heavy running conditions on the new track, which was much better than last year’s course. At the end of the first lap A. Mann was leading, followed by Parker and Peterson. At the finish Mann won comfortably, Peterson being second and Parker third. The sealed handicap resulted: —Parker 1, Geo. Ward 2, S. Anderson 3. The following are requested to turn out for training in view of the forthcoming Otago crosscountry:—A. Maun, S. Peterson, fe. Parker, G. Ward, R. Pate, H. Masters, and B. Anderson ST. HILDA. The St. Hilda pack numbered thirtyseven, under the whistles of Captain A. Foley and Deputy Captain R, Mercer. An excellent trail was laid by C. Bnddicom and C. Tregartha. Leaving Calder street, the trail led down Macandrew road to Surrey street, 1 through tho Park to the Main South 1 road. From there they went through the old Gaversham tunnel, where the | boys had plenty of fun, as they had • no matches co see with in the tunnel. i From here they skirted along Valley road to the Roslyn Mills, and thence along Mill road to the Mornington car sheds, down Eglinton road to the Oval, along Anderson’s Bay road to Bay View road. From there they had an excellent run home. C. Pope, A. Thompson, and L. M'Millau finished m that order. The members were afterwards entertained to tea by Mr and Mrs S. MTveich. HANOVER BAPTIST. Tho Hanover Harriers held the championship and sealed handicap race of five miles. The course was twice round Forbury Racecourse, then along Lovers’ Lane, back along Victoria road, into the racecourse, and once round. A bitterly cold wind was blowing as tho president (Rev. E. Tuckwell) started tho seventeen runners. At the end of the first round of the course N. Harvey, who had been running very fast, led Bartlett, and St. Gibson. Tho field then spread out, and at tho end of the second round of the course Harvey was still loading, with Austin, Kay, Bartlett, St. Gibson, Hayward, and Nicholson behind him. The boys were all running well, showing the effects _ of solid training. Soon after entering Lovers’ Lane Harvey had to drop out owing to an injured foot. Entering the racecourse for the last time Kay was first, with Bartlett right on his heels. Then came Nicholson, Austin, Hayward, S. C. Gibson, and S. A. Gibson. There was an exciting finish, Kay boating Bartlett by only Isec. Then followed Nicholson, Austin. Hayward, and S. C. Gibson. Sixteen finished. Kay’s time was 29rain 2sec. The result of tho scaled handicap was as follows—C. Stewart (7min 30 sec) 1, S. C. Gibson (4min SOsec) 2, A. Smith (6min) 3. CIVIL SERVICE. Civil Service held their 6im club championship and sealed handicap at Wicgatui, a large field .aring the starter (Mr A. Melville). Graham 1, Jeffrey and Brown (equal) 2, Osborne 3. ‘ PACIFIC. Tho above club decided its five-mile senior and 2j-mile junior championships at Wingatui. In the senior race M'Laren ran into an early lead, and at the end of the first round was some 75yds in the lead from E. J. Johnson, with Pledger third. M'Laren continued to gain ground, and gathered the course proper ground, and ntered the course proper with about 600yds advantage, and finished with a fine dash up the straight. Johnston, Bond, Pledger, M'Gee, Ashton, Smith followed at short intervals. Chittleborough had no difficulty in winning the junior championship, but Wabrhch, the second rnd well to Wharlich, the second man, ran well to finish about a furlong back. Pledger was third. H. Bond was the winner of the Senior Sealed Handicap, and M'Gfio second. Renton took the Junior Sealed Handicap, with Pqtbury second. Tho following will represent the club in the forthcoming cross-conntry championship:—M'Laren, Johnstone, Bond, Chittleborough, Fish, Mount; emergencies—Pledger, M'Gee. UNIVERSITY. University held their weekly run from Allen Hall. In spite of the festivities of tho past week there was quite a fair turn-out of members. The trail led through Opoho to the top of Signal Hill, and then down through a belt of bush above Burkes. From hero to Ravensbourne a fast pace was made along the face of tho hill, and then the Port road was followed home. The run home from Logan’s Point resulted in Sanders and Geddes securing first and second places. Prominent during the run were Birrell, M'George, Pearce, and West. ABBOTSFORD. Abbotsford Methodist hold their weekly run from the Abbotsford Church. Owing to bad weather conditions, paper was dispensed with. Captain L. Martin led a good trail across country to Look-out Point, and up to Roslyn via the Gaversham car terminus and Maryhill. The pack then ran along the North Taieri road, where it divided. The run continued along the road back to Abbotsford, resulting in T. Brown and R Knox being first and second in the fast pack and W- Kane and I. Brown in the slow pack. Three new runners showed up very favourably.
