GIRL LOSES A LEG PINNED BY A CAR. Miss B.' Mayes, aged twenty-three, of Leyton, England, bad her leg amputated in tho street near her home a few weeks ago. She was standing on the pavement waiting for a bus, when she was struck by a car, which swerved and mounted tho pavement in avoiding a collision. As she was struck Miss Mayes was liftotl up and jammed between the bonnet and wing of the car and I.lc front spring pierced her leg just below the knee. It was found impossible to remove her. and a doctor was summoned. He had* to amputate the teg below the knee to get Miss Mayes free. It was twenty minutes between the time Miss Mayes was struck, and the time she was ‘removed, but she did not lose consciousness.
