TERRIBLE INJURIES
PETROL IGNITES IN SMASH IPM Unites Pbess Absociatiob.] CHHISTCII UIICH, June 25. George Joint Hum Pine, aged nineteen, died in Christchurch Hospital at noon to-day as the result of terrible injuries received in a collision between the motor cycle he was riding and a motor truck on Riccarton road this morning. Pine was riding on a piece of road, bitumen paved, facing the rays of the morning sun. As he was passing W. J. Rowan’s yard, a motor truck, driven by 11. Giles, came out on to tha road. The motor cycle hit the truck with a terrific crash, and the cycle’s petrol tank burst, and the petrol fired, enveloping Pine, his motor cycle, and the bonnet of the truck in flames
Pine was dragged from the burning truck with his clothing afire, and terribly burned. He was rushed to. hospital, but he lived only a few hours A chemical extinguisher was effective in saving the truck trom complete destruction. Pine was the son of the well-known horse trainer, George J. Pine.
