A conclusion was reached at Wellington in a case in which the Public Trustee, as the sole executor in the will of Hamilton Gilmer, appealed against certain assessments made hy the Commissioner of Stamp Duties in respect of the Grand, Albert, New Commercial, and Clyde Quay hotels. The trustee objected to the assessment of £31,000 for goodwill, contending that it should be set aside, as it was part of the laitd and buildings on which death duties amounting to £59,d56 had already been paid. Mr Justice Sim reserved Ins judgment.
