In connection with the taking over of a section of the East Coast railway— Waihi to Tauranga-—on Monday next, and a further section to Tancatua in a few weeks, about 250 men in all branches now engaged by the Public Works Department have received notice of their dismissal. Their places will ho filled presumably by the working railways staff. In addition, many of the men who are living in houses and huts have received notice to quit, thus aggravating the position consequent on the loss of employment. Mr C..,E.
