Preparations for the commencement of training.by the Royal Naval Reserve (Dunedin Division) are well in hand, and the first drill will take place ns soon as the uniforms arrive, possibly about June 26. Yesterday afternoon, at tho invitation of Commander E. F. Watson, R.N.V.R., officer commanding the Dunedin Division, the mayor (Mr W. 13. Taverner), tho deputy mayor (Mr J. S. Douglas', and Crs R. S. Black. F. W. Mißnell, W. A. Scott, and D. Larnach paid a visit (o the divisional headquarters in Tewsley street. The visitors wore accompanied by Mr Keith Ramsay, of the R.N.V.R. Committee, and Mr H. Roberts, secretary of tho and were shown over tho hall by officers of the division.

The future_ prospects of the movement were discussed, and the mayor complimented those citizens who had been responsible for tho lorraation of the division, and expressed pleasure at being privileged to inspect such us.' l, .:l and comfortable quarters. In demonstrating the maimer in which the men would receive their training it was explained that tho hall would be the-ship, and tho main hall the quarter-dock. Tho men would “come aboard ” over a gangway from tho rear of tho hall over a gangway as if from a cutter alongside, and salute an ensign placed in a convenient position. In a small cloak room at the foot of the- gangway they would leave coats and such articles which were not required on parade, and appear in “the rig of the day.” The division would fall-in facing the south side of the hall, and then go to “divisions” when the training syllabus commenced. Necessarily the fipst few parades will be devoted to organisation and instruction in the correct fitting and wearing of the uniforms, for the British naval man is known throughout the world to Be punctilious in the matter of dress.
