TWO COMEDY SENSATIONS

COMING TO THE EMPIRE. ■ ‘ Getting Gertie’s Garter,’ with Marie Prevost and Charles Ray in the leading parts, is one of the amusing features to open at the Empire Theatre to-morrow. It is a screen version of the popular stage play, and is a pleasing comedy-drama, with the kaleidoscopic changes and misunderstandings the cause of constant laughter. Charles Ray presents his lisncee with what he says is a jewel-decorated bracelet (.but which is really a garter), with his portrait in miniature to which she adds her own picture. Ho, however, falls in Jove with another girl, and it is the effort to recover the gift, proof of Ins fickleness, which is tho cause of tin? trouble. The chief characters in the play are rich society people travelling between New York and Paris, and the settings of the story arc of the most lavish nature. A strong supporting cast all add their quota, to tho wealth of fun, and includes Sally Rami, Fritzi Ridgeway, .and Franklin Pangboni. Coney Island, the playground of New York’s 5,000,000 people,, plays an important part in 4 The Rig Noise.’ the second picture. All the glamour and colour of the famous carnival of fun is brought to the screen, and presents, a vivid contrast to the scenes showing Now York’s lower East Side, .where much, of the action hi the picture takes place. 4 The Big Noise ’ was written for First National Pictures by lieu Hecht. and centres around the power of the sensational American newspaper in making and breaking reputations overnight.
