SCHOOLMASTER PASSES
DEATH OF m W. A. PATERSON Pvcgrct will bo widespread at the death at his homo in Iloslyn last Saturday of a mueh-rcspected school teacher, Mr W. A. Paterson, who was best known from his association with the Wakari School over a period of twentylive years. The late Mr Paterson was originally engaged in business in Melbourne, but entering the teaching profession ho had charge in turn of the Cambrians, Bannockburn. Waihola, Cromwell, and Wakari Schools. While at Wakari ho mastered tho Braille system of teaching tho blind in order that blind pupils attending the school should not only have a good education, but be enabled to remain with theii parents. Ho was also largely responsible for a fund which enabled them to go farther, and such work as this was indicative of tho man—always a publicspirited gentleman, thinking of others, as his old pupils are well able to testify. Ho was president of tho Dunedin branch of tho Teachers’ Institute fox a term, and by all with whom he came into contact ho was admired and respected for his ability as a. teacher and his personal worth as a man. He was predeceased by his wife six months ago, and of his large family seven sons served wibli the N.Z.E.Fs during tho Great War, one, Dr W. Fergus Paterson, making the .supreme sacrifice. The sympathy of all who knew him will go out to tho relatives in their loss.
