WINTER MEETING OPENED BIG FIELDS PRODUCE GOOD SPORT Pino overhead, but wet underfoot, were tiie conditions at Forbury Park to-day, when the Winter Meeting opened. Victor Bingen, Dummy Bingen, Harold Moor, and Wee Patch were slow to move off, but the field was sent away to a good start. Repute and Snider went to the front immediately, but Snider soon broke and became unsettled. Hawkesbury’s Pride ran past Repute as they raced past the stand the first time round, they being followed by Ruby Bingen and Jock Bingen. Trotting faultlessly, Hawkesbury’s Pride opened out a twenty lengths’ lead from Repute, Merry bingen, Kerrwood Bell, and Ruby Bingen. There was no change . m the order till they the- far turn, where Hawkesbury’s Pride was all oyer a winner, the others making no lessening of his margin. There Kerrwood Bell raced into second place, hut immediately broke and dropped back. Jade was lying in behind the second division, but in the run home Hawkesbury’s Pride won easing up by ten lengths from Repute, with Jade two lengths away. Then came Merry Bingen, Kerrwood Bell, Commander Bingen, and Petroleuse. Times: 4mxn 11 3-ssec, 4 min 16 2-ssec, 4mm 12 3-Sseo.

Erin’s Chance and Author Franz set out to make the pace, but passing the stand for the first time the field was closely hunched. Author Franz being just ahead of Erin’s Chance. Leo Thorpe. Dick Logan, Locaudalinc, and Needles, who,_ at this stage, had improved his position best. So they raced for a lap, hut shortly before entering on the last round, Author Franz broke, leaving Needles to lake on the running from Adios, Dick Logan, and Lee Thorpe. The field was well strung out at this stage. Going alone’ the back Needles was one of the first°boaten, Adios hitting the front. Changes wore frepuent. the leadership being°disputed. Dick Logan was first to turn for home, being followed by Spring Note, Sunfish, Sheila Fleetwood, and Lee Thorpe. In the run to the jiulo-e Dick Logan drew out to win t h.V two" lengths from thc_ little-fancied Spring Note, while Sheila Fleetwood, who was blocked in her earlier runs, not through on the rails, three le-ngths away. Entering the back stretch Lenamhor dropped back, and La Sonnetto went to the front from Liberal and Firpo. The order was_ unchanged at the entrance to the straight, whore Lenamhor, who was putting in a forward run, met interference In a hard finish Firpo had more dash, and won by a good length from La Sonnettc, who just heat Liberal by a neck. and Sea Queen headed Avalanche. With two rounds to go, Peter Boy was a length clear of Secret Link, thojr being followed by Kernvood Bell, Burnie, and Sea Queen. The leaders’ margin was reduced on the round, when the order was Peter Boy, Secret Link, Kernvood Bell, Burnie, Sea Queen, and Avalanche. Peter Boy broke badly turning into the back, where Kerrwood Bell, Sea Queen, and Avalanche also put in skips. This left Secret Link with a six lengths’ lead. She was first for home, four lengths ahead of Kerrwood Bell and Avalanche. The latter made another mistake, but Kerrwood Bell had enough dash to catch Secret Link and beat her by half a length, with Avalanche three lengths away. Sea Queen was ten lengths back, followed by Burnie and Peter Boy. Times: smm 6 1-ssec, smin 8 2-ssec, smin 7sec. PRINCE OF WALES HANDICAP (Harness), 600sovs; second 100, third 50.
