SHOPPERS’ GUIDE
TO-DAY’S CASH PRICES
The guide gives the prices ruling in the city shops to-day.
There is no alteration in the price of eggs. First grade arc 2s 7d a dozen, second grade 2s sd. Butter is selling at 1s 9d and 1s 7d.
Meat prices are unchanged:— Beef (roast), 5d to 8d; corned beef, from 6d to 8d; mutton, from 3sd to 8d; lamb, from 5s quarter; pork, from B|d to Is.
Fish is plentiful, prices being:— Groper, 6d lb; kingfish, 8d lb; blue cod, 10d lb; fresh red cod, 31b for Is; smoked blue cod, 1s 3d lb; smoked red cod, from 4d each; soles, from 3s dozen; flounders, from 4s dozen; ling, 3lb for. Is; smoked barracouta, Is each ; Canadian salmon, Is 6d lb; rabbits, 8d each; oysters, Is 6d per two-dozen pottle.
Vegetable prices are:—Local hothouse tomatoes, lOd lb; outside tomatoes, 4d to 6d lb; Taieri potatoes, 101 b for Is; cabbage, 2d to 4d; cauliflowers, 4d to 8d; lettuce, 3d to 6d; cucumbers (hothouse), Cd to Is; outside cucumbers, 3d to 4d each; French beans, 6d lb; marrows, 2d lb; pumpkins, 2d ib; potatoes, 8s cwt.
Fruit is selling at:—Bananas, 10 for Is; Cox's Orange apples, 4J to 6d Ib; Winter Cole pears, 6d lb; other varieties, 4d; Californian lemons, 3d each; Valencia oranges, 3 and 4 for Is; hothouse grapes, 2s; dessert plums, 4d Ib; cooKiny plums, 4d Ib; grape fruit, 6d each; dessert peaches, 6d and Brt Ib; cooking peaches, 4d Ib.
