SYDNEY’S NEW REGULATIONS INCREASE IN CUSTOMS REVENUE. Press Association —By Telegraph-Copyright SYDNEY, April 12. (Received April 12, at 10 a.m.) Under the new Customs regulations, which commenced to operate in January last, and under which passengers from abroad must declare their luggage in the form of a statutory declaration, the Customs revenue shows an increase of over 200 per cent, compared with the previous corresponding period. The Minister of Customs, commenting on the new regulations, stated that the change also had had a good moral effect, and curtailed the activities of the small but very enterprising minority of travellers who hitherto had not hesitated deliberately to lay themselves out to defraud the department.
