Tho Hon. W. Hownio Stewart, Min-* ister of Fuji nee and Customs, came to Dunedin with his sister on Saturday afternoon, and they expect to occupy their residence in Jlcriot row' for two or ihreo weeks. Mr F. G. Matthews, Mr Stuart’s private secretary, is at tho Grand Hotel. Mr Stewart has arranged for the use of the jury loom in tire Law Courts as an office in which to transact public business connected with his departments during Ins slay hero. No deputations were fixed for to-day. Mr James Hogg left to-day for Wellington on business. Mr William Hinchcy( chairman of tho Southland Electric Power Hoard) and Mr C. Campbell (secretary) passed through Dunedin by tho express to-day for Wellington on Power Hoard business.

Lieutenant 1 jester, of Iho Salvation Army, who for sonic time has been in charge ol the men’s shelter in Machiggan street, has been transferred to the men’s hostel, Vivian street, Wellington, and left for the north to-day. Mr ]j. F. Lawrence, president of tho Dunedin Master Builders’ Association, with three of his committeemen (Messrs J. M'Conuack, 1.1. (J. Anderson, and W. Kills, left by the through express this morning for Christchurch, in order to attend the builders’ conference.

On Saturdayj at Brighton, during tho progress ol the annual picnic of Arthur Harnett, Ltd., opportunity was taken, to express thanks to Mr Harnett and his co-directors for their kindness in providing a delightful outing. Mr Lawn, on behalf of all the employees, then asked Mr Harnett to accept for himself, for Mrs Harnett, and Miss Linda Barnet t a Mosgiel rug each (suitably embroidered with monogram), on Hie occasion of their approaching trip to the East, America, and England. The wish was expressed that they would have a pleasant holiday and a safe return. Mr Arthur Barnett suitably acknowledged the gifts and thanked all present for their expressions of goodwill and loyalty.

A _ London cable slates that the Trinity College of Music, London, has appointed the following examiners to visit Australia and Now Zealand:—« Adolph .Mann, due at Perth on ..March ■3; Albert Mallinson and J)r Vaughan, both duo at Perth on August 14; Egerton Lowe, due at Auckland on June 18; and Dr Borland, due at Christchurch early in July. Captain John R. Middleton, D. 5.0., R.N., Director of Naval Reserves, arrives by the express this evening on departmental business.

Sanford (Lincoln, Nebraska, U.S.A.), Mr G. J. Pledgers (Kenya Colony), Mr D. A. Maling (Boston, U.S.A.), Mr G. A. Manton (Melbourne), Mr J. M. Deschamp, Mr A. H L'ivett (Sydney), Mr A. Duthie, Mr E. W. Sharp, Captain H. S. Hilton (Auckland), Mr J. Pobcrtsoti Air K. Mitchell, Mr E. G. Matthdws, Mr F. G, Wood (Wellington), Air and Airs Edgar T. Shand, Aliss P. Shand (Kokonga).
