CITY COUNCIL UNDERTAKINGS Works proposed to he put in hand shortly by the City Council are set out in the report of the Works Committee. The city engineer has been instructed to proceed with the following:— Trimming up of bank along the front of Mr W. A. Jones’s property at No. 186 Gladstone road; estimated cost, £5. Construction of new mud_ tank of standard type over culvert _in Chambers street to replace existing intake and prevent blocking; estimated cost, £26.

Proceed with the formation, metalling, construction of kerbing and channelling, etc., on the south-western end of Royston street, as provided in the allocations, at an estimated cost of £339. Also construction of kerbing and channelling on both sides of the existing portion of Royston street, at an estimated cost of £93.

Completion of the improvement works recently under progress in Upper High street, comprising ballasting, metalling, screening footways, completing ramp, fencing, construction of kerbing and channelling in cutting and tarred macadam footways in cutting, at an estimated cost of £363 10s,, chargeable to loan account. The formation of the new portion of Lynn street known as the Lynn street deviation, comprising earthwork, metalling, construction of kerbing and channelling, removal of projection on south side near Chapman street, and sundry other works, at a total estimated cost of £736, chargeable to loan account.

Both tho Lynn street and the High stieet work have been partially done, and it is desirable in the public interest that they should be carried to completion with tho least possible delay. Provisvn and fixing of timber for hand-rails in Brunei street, and providing of screenings _ over ramp to Mr Kinmont’s property in the same street, at an estimated cost of £9.

The city engineer has been instructed to record tho under noted matter for consideration with the allocations for next financial year;—Formation of portion of Cannington road along the frontage of Mr B. Nees’s property, the construction of a short length of culvert and metalling, at an estimated cost of £627.
