1 ORDERS FOR SMALL GRAFT Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, January 31. It is understood tha_t the Admiralty is about to placa orders with a private shipyard for one private flotilla leader, eight destroyers, and five submarines, and a sixth submarine from Chatham Dockyard. “ Competition has been the keenest,” says the ‘Daily Telegraph’s’ naval correspondent, “ and no doubt the country will obtain the new warships at bedrock prices. Nevertheless, the shipping and associated industries will probably benefit to the extent of £5,000,000. ‘The British Empire, from the armistice to the present time, lias built or ordered only ten destroyers and sixteen submarines, including contracts impending, compared with America’s seventy-seven and thirty, sixty-nino and sixty-one, twenty-six and and Italy s thirty-eight and eighteen.”
