NORTH-EAST HARBOR NOTES

[From Our Correspondent.] Masters Riddell and Churchill (crew), Mr G. Bewlcy (manager), and Mr W. Riddell, the Otago representatives for the Cornwell Cup contest at Auckland, returned last Tuesday, and were met at the station by a number of residents and representatives of the Otago Yacht Association. The party all spoke enthusiastically of the trip and of the hospitality shown them .up north. The monthly meeting of the committee of the "North-east Harbor Boating Chib was held on Wednesday evening. Commodore Bewley occupied the chair, and there were present Messrs Marrett, 11. Hellyer, A. Hellyer, M'Evoy, Gibson, H. Brown, W. Robinson, Timms, and F. C. Brown (secretary). A club picnic for the Ladies’ Committee of the club and their helpers was arranged to be held on Saturday, February 11, at the Portobello Fish. Hatchery, and the local fleet of launches will convey the party there and back. 'Phis function is now an annual event, and shows that the social side of the club's activities is not- being overlooked. Several matters in connection with the races were dealt with, and it was decided to hold the race for local yachts _ for the Strang Cup on Monday evening, February 6, at 7 o’clock. That Macundrew Bay is increasing in popularity, and that more people are gradually shitting that way is demonstrated no more plainly anywhere than at the school, which has had insufficient accommodation for some time past. Realising this the Education Board lias granted the erection of a new room, and extensions to another, and this work is now proceeding apace. The inconvenience both to teachers and scholars of a temporary classroom will therefore soon he over. The hall was filled to overllowing last Saturday night, the occasion being dance which was run by the Ratepayers’ Association. Mr W. Riddell, who ably lulfilled the duties of M.C., had seen that the floor was in good order, and dancing proceeded merrily to the music of East’s Orchestra, while Mi Harboro and Mr Riddell played extras. The ladies’ committee which had charge of the supper spared themselves no trouble in its preparation, with excellent results.

The Presbyterian Young Ladies’ Bible Class will commence its meetings for the ensuing year on Sunday, February
