The ‘Daily Express’ slates that news of a plot to assassinate Mr James M'Neill, Governor-General of the Free State, reached Scotland Yard during the week-end from tho Dublin police, who have reason to believe that at tempts are to be made while Mr M'Neill is in London 'or during his voyage to Ireland. Armed detectives are guarding Mr M'Neill’s house, and they will accompany him to Holyhead when he goes to Dublin for installation as GovernorGeneral, the Irish police taking over the responsibility at Holyhead. The ‘Daily Express’ adds that leaflets are being circulated in Ireland calling for someone to “give the new representative of Britain the reception he deserves.” The leaflets are “signed and issued by ghosts.” A DUBLIN INCIDENT. While Detective John Hurling was going to his home in Dublin he saw two men sitting on a seat at the side of the road, and as they appeared to be suspicions characters he drew his revolver. When he was entering his gate a shot was fired. The detective replied, and a rapid exchange of shots followed, and one man ran away. Marling telephoned for the flying squad, and it discovered the body of Timothy Cogblan, aged twenty-one. The police are at a loss to understand tho reason for tho attack, and it is not established whether Cogblan was one of Harling’s assailants or a passer-by, tho shots having brought many people out of doors.
