CREMATORIUM AT ANDERSON’S BAY
Here is a picture of Dunedin’s latest asset, the Crematorium, which is .situated with a wide outlook to the ocean to the ca»i of the Anderson’s Bay Cemetery. The main building consists of a chapel measuring 30ft by 22ft, and is finished with the orthodox church-seating and lectern. At the east end is placed the catafalque constructed of boa utiful figured red pine, bn which the c asket rests during the ceremony. Adjoining the chapel is the furnace chamber, which is complete in every respect, having many intricate flues and dampers so that the intense heat generated by a coke fire can be controlled by the operator. Alongside the building is placed an ornamental chimney-tower, 46ft high , which is connected to the furnace by an underground flue. The whole has been designed by the city building surveyor (Mr G. W. Gough), and the work has been carried out by the building firm of Walter Ellis and Co.
