QUEENSTOWN HEALTH

NO EPIDEMIC We have received the following telegram from Mr W. H. Overton, mayor of Queenstown: — 1 should like to make an emphatic contradiction of the rcfei'aiico made to the health conditions of this district in a paragraph which appeared in Thursday’s ‘Star.’ Your informant stated that—‘ A virulent epidemic, probably pneumonic influenza, had spread around the district like a plague, hut fortunately this malady was now on the decline.’ “This statement is absolutely without foundation ns far as Queenstown district is concerned, and inquiries .1 have made made lead me to believe it is untrue of any part of the district. On my referring the statement to the local doctor, he stated that, there had been no influenza or pneumonic influenza. here, and he added that the district has been particularly free ot sickness this summer, both among the, residents and visitors."
