FRUIT AND PRODUCE

FRUIT AND PRODUCE. Bray Bros., Ltd., report as follows for the week ended to-day;— Business in the grain and produce markets is quiet, and few transactions are going through. Business in the fruit markets has been brisk during the week, and apricots and peaches are now coming forward in full supply, and prices are reasonable. Apricots and peaches are being sent as far as Auckland, and a fair market is obtained. This is good for the grower, as the local market is over-supplied, and prices realised leave little margin of profit. Plums have been in good supply, large quantities have come forward from Canterbury. Cherry plums have a good inquiry. New season’s apples arc coming on the market from Nelson and Central Otago. American apples are finished. Cherries are almost finished, and strawberries are finished. Raspberries and loganberries are now in full supply and prices are reassonable. Gooseberries and black currants are almost finished. Tomatoes are coming forward in larger quantities. Fair supplies are now coming forward from Nelson, but the quality of these is not equal to the Christchurch grown or local hothouse. Outside-grown tomatoes are fully a month to six weeks later than usual. Lemons have been in very short supply, but a few are available, and prices are high. Oranges are offering more freely ._ Vegetables are in plentiful supply, with- a moderate demand. New season’s Swedes are starting to come on the market.
