FIRE ENGINE AND TAX!

SENSATIONAL COLLISION FIREMEN THROWN FROM MACHINE [Peh United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, January 27. A sensational collision occurred today between a fire engine, which was speeding to an outbreak in Sydney sreet, and a taxi cab. Tho accident took place at the entrance to the Queen’s wharf, a notoriously dang Irons spot. In attempting to avoid the taxi cab the engine was capsized, and all the firemen were thrown dear, fortunately escaping injury with the exception of J. Philp, who landed on his head, and ivas sent to the hospital, but was afterwards taken to the brigade station. Petherick, the driver, and Leadbrook, the officer in charge, were imprisoned between the engine and the taxi, and could not be liberated till the engine was replaced on its wheels.
