In the Shefiield Shield match New South Wales in its first innings made, odd (Oldfield 101, Nicholls 110). Morton took five wickets for 75, and A. Beckett six Hor 119. Victoria in its first innings has lost one wicket for 158 (Woodin 11 not out 74, Hendry, not out 7d. The \vcatlier was fine and the wicket good. Oldfield and Nicholls continued the overnight partnership, and by daring, breezy batting carried the score well along, adding runs from almost every ball. Victoria opened badly, Ponsford being bowled by Gregory when 6,‘ the score reading one for 11. WoodfnlLand Hendry then showed a solid front to the attack, and, by judicious cricket, soon placed Victoria in a healthier position. When stumps were drawn, owing to the failing light, both batsmen appeared to he well set, and had the bowling in hand. '

HAWKE CUP WANGANUI v. ’WAIKATO. The Wanganui representative eleven, on its own ground yesterday, commenced its second match in defence of the Hawke Cup, which was recaptured from Taranaki Inst month. The challengers were Waikato. Wanganui won ' the toss, and the visitors had a day’s fielding. The bowling was very good early, but suffered in the afternoon. Wanganui was all out for 561 about 40min before time, and the visitors were tin fortunate in losing two batsmen with only 9 runs on the board.
