TAIERI COUNTY COUNCIL

The monthly meeting was presided over by Mr J. W. Blair (chairman). CORRESPONDENCE. The following Treasury vouchers were received ;—Government subsidy on rates, £1,207 10s; main highways, £291 18s Bd.—Received. The Public Works Department forwarded authority for a grant of £2OO (Graham’s road, Silverpeaks). Received. The Chairman reported to the council the trend of the discussion with the Highways Board on its recent visit to the county. REPORTS. The Finance Committee reported that the receipts for the past nine weeks were £3,416 12s 3d; and recommended payment of accounts for the month totalling £1,630 19s 7d. The accounts for December totalled £2,102 15s 4d. The bank pass book showed a debit balance of £5,901 2s 2d.—The report was adopted. The Inspector recommended that the following works be carried out:— Deep Stream Riding: Mosgiel to Middlemarch Main Highway No. 2 “That alternative tenders be called for the supply and delivery of 1,920 cubic yards of schist spalls, to be spread on the section of this highway from Mount Gowrie to Peat Bog (about two miles); that I,6ooyds of gravel be carted from Deep Stream at Butler’s to the above section of highway.” Kaikorai Riding: “That 80yds of maintenance metal be spread on the Kaikorai Valley road.*” These recommendations, were agreed to. The Sanitary Inspector reported favorably on the slaughter houses at Green Island, on the piggeries. ,af Green Island Bush, and the boilingdown works at Green Island. The Banger reported having impounded thirteen head of cattle and seven horses during the month.
