ANGLICAN ATHLETIC CLUB

SUCCESSFUL EVENING MEETING The weather conditions were ideal for the Anglican Harrier and Athletic Club’s fixture at the _ Caledonian Grounds last evening. 'There was a fair attendance, and the meeting was a success in every way. All the races were set off promptly, and the crowd was treated to some closely contested finishes. Large fields were the order throughout, there being no less than twenty-eight competitors in the llllljds Handicap and twenty-two starters in the cycle event , One of the best races was provided in the final of the lUOyds (first, grade). For the first time the method of grading the competitors in this event was tried, and proved to be successful. As a result all the heats wore closely contested, and in the final there was hardly a foot separating any two of the competitors, in this event Olsen was in particularly good form, and delighted those present with his splendid effort both in his heat and in the’final. The large fields in the heats ot the cycling event resulted in some good racing. Ewing on the 140yds mark won the mile and a-half cycle event in a convincing manner. The pace set by the leaders in this race was too much for the scratch man, Bremford, who just managed to secure fourth place. Taylor off the 30yds mark ran a particularly good race in the I,oooyds Handicap, in which J. Alorris, the Otago mile champion, was a starter. APLachlan, who was 10yds behind, ran a splendid race to got into third position.

A feature of flic programme was the number of teams that competed in the relay. 'The Anglican Club bad three teams running, and altogether there were seven different teams_ competing. Clarke was chiefly responsible for_ his chib winning this race, which provided one of the best finishes seen in a relay race for some time. Olsen and AULachlan ran well for the Civil Service team, which was second Results;—■
