The Takapumi Jockey Club’s Summer Meeting opens at Devonport on Saturday and will he on Monday. The initial event, the Trial Stakes, has drawn a field of twentytwo, of whom Cynthia, Roma, and Captain Cobham will no doubt bo well supported. Ten horses will face the starter in the Drew a High-weight. A trio that looks nicely placed is Bold Front, Ripon Abbey, and Pekatnhi. Ihe open sprint, the Stewards’ Handicap, has been promoted to third event, and of the nine acceptors High Finance, Tea Time, and Nancy Lee may be the favorite division. There, are a similar number of aspirants for the Takapung Cup (l,ooosovs. Tim), in ■which the top weights Peg Away, Eden Hall, and Transformer arc expected to run prominently. Eighteen are carded for tne Ferry Handicap. Among those yvhich can run a smart seven furlongs are Winsome Boy, Speechless, and Ripon Abbey. Of the thirteen acceptors in the Calliope Handicap (for juveniles), The Begum, Mauriaena, and Catonian are likely sorts. There are fourteen left in the Hauraki Handicap, 9f, and Takurunga, War Officer, and Corinax should carry most money. Saturday’s finals is the Zealandia Handicap, 7f, in which seventeen are engaged, Ti Tree, Town Guard, and Macroora have the best recent form to recommend them.
