The final Plunkct Shield match commenced this morning in fine, but windy, weather on a hard wicket. Wellington won the toss, and batted, Worker and Dempster opening the innings to the bowling of Matheson and Player. The batsmen proceeded cautiously against accurate bowling. _ Worker square-cut Matheson to the fence, and 20 appeared after twenty-six minutes. At 22 Anthony replaced player, and Dempster hooked him for 4. _ Player came on at the other end with the wind. The batting brightened up, and Dempster ran into the 20’s. Matheson tried his luck against the wind, but the first ball Dempster played through the slips for 3. Worker played the same stroke, also for 3. At 48 Anthonv replaced Player (none for 10 off nine overs). Fifty was registered after fifty-nine minutes _ play At fifty-seven G. Weir went on instead or Matheson (none for 31). Badcock hooked Bowley for 4 and two balls later played him through the slips to the boundary.
