A Press telegram from Levin states that under the will of Mrs Charlotte Shaw, of Levin, a number of bequests have been made to various religious and charitable institutions. These include £IOO to the Home for Aged and Needy in Wellington; £2OO for Dr Barnardo’s Hornes, London; and £IOO for the Salvation Army Rescue Home in Wellington. A sum in excess of £3,000 will Be divided in varying proportions between the Presbyterian Church at Levin and the following activities of the Presbyterian Church Foreign Missions, New Hebrides Mission, Home Mission Extension, and orphanage work. The Public Trustee is the admi nisi* ator of the will.

The annual conference of the New Zealand Sanitary Inspectors’ Association was held at Napier, After careful consideration the conference decided that instead of holding a conference next year its place be taken by a refresher course, which is to be held in Wellington next January. The following remit was fully discussed and carried: —“That the Director-general of Health bo requested to consider the advisability of a clause being added to the Health Act relating to infectious and notifiable diseases to ensure that a trained nurse or assistant be part of every ambulance service, and that it be made compulsory on every hospital board, ambulance service, or other authority responsible for the removal of infectious cases to hospital, that such trained assistant or nurse be provided. This would obviate the necessity of contacts _ accompanying cases to hospital returning to their homes in public vehicles.” Dr Hill, director of Ivew Gardens, London, left Wellington for Nelson and the West Coast last night. “’At Nelson he will confer with the authorities of the Cawthron Institute, and then pay a visit to the Franz Josef Glacier. Ho will return to Wellington before leaving finally for the_ north. It is understood that the itinerary for Dr Hill’s tour did not include a visit to the great kauri forests at Waipotia, North Auckland. Representations have been made that he should not leave New Zealand before seeing this scenic wonder, and it is hoped that arrangements will be finalised to enable the English botanist to include Waipotia in his northern programme.
