TWO ENGLISH-BRED HORSES
WELCOME ADDITIONS TO THE DOMINION. to the ‘ Star.’] AUCKLAND, January 25. The two English-bred horses which arrived here by the Arawa, consigned to Dr W. C- Ring, are welcome additions to the dominion, both as regards racing and breeding purposes. Ine horses referred to are Lorient and Bright Land, both of whop have raced prominently on the English turf. Lorient is a live-year-old horse by Lomond IronivAnnie Laurie, who as a two-ycar-old was only unplaced once in the live races that he contested at that age. In his first race in April, 1925, he finished third in the Foxrock Plate, carrying 8,0, and the following week won'the Paddock Plate (five furlongs), with 9.0 on his back. His next race was in June, when he scored in the Blake Plate (five furlongs), in which he carried top-weight (9.5). He ran unplaced in Hie Drogheda Memorial Stakes in, July, and was not raced again until November, when he accounted for the Eloaston Plato (five furlongs), carrying 9.0, running the distance in Imin 2|sec. As a threo-yoar-old he contested nine events, and after running unplaced in the first five races he won the Londes Borough Welter (five furlongs) in Imin Isco. He was third in the Grimstead Welter (five furlongs), run in 59sec. and won the Harewood Handicap (five furlongs) at Doncaster and the Croxteth Plate (five furlongs) at Liverpool. Bright Land, a bay gelding by Orb from Land Lady, started nine times as n, two-ycar-old ’ for three firsts, one second, and a third. He ran six races at three years, and a second was his best effort, while one win, one second, and three times in third place was his best performances as a four-year-old. At five years he was started in fourteen races, winning three of them, and also running a second and third in two others. The races he won at this age were the Fitzwilliam Stakes (six furlongs), in Imin 12 l-sscc, the Illsley Plate (seven furlongs), in Imin 26 4-sscc. and the Jesmond Welter (seven furlongs). In his la*t win before leaving England Bright Land captured the Clear well Plate (six furlongs), carrying 9.4.
