(Received January 26, at 11.20 a.m.) Violent wind storms throughout- the Western United States killed ten people and injured many. The damage to property at present cannot be estimated. The gale reached a velocity of seventy miles an hour. Pedestrians in New York City fought their way to the subways in the elevated stations against winds that made walking arduous. The waters in the harbor, churned by the gale, swamped two boats. All the liners were delayed. Many injuries were caused as the result of many persons ' being unable, through the force of the wind, to dodge the automobiles.
