OTASO V. CANTERBURY Matches were begun this morning on the Caledonian Ground between senior and junior teams from the Boys’ Associations of Otago and Canterbury. The weather was beautifully fine. Tho visiting lads appeared to be much bigger than the Otago boys, though the age limit is the same in each centre. SENIOR MATCH. French, the Canterbury skipper, won the toss, and batted on a good wicket, Wise and M'Kernnn opening. The former had scored only a single when he put his leg in front to Cusack, and was out. I—l—3. M‘Rae followed, and the score went steadily along till it reached 23, when M‘Rae also made the mistake of putting his leg in front to a straight one, Tobin being the bowler. 2—5—23. French and M'Kernan carried the score to 27, then the latter was caught at extra cover off Tobin. A good stand was made by French and Grimmer before the former was out Ibw to Cusack for 34, the total being 86, French hit two 6’s and five 4’s. Blackaby fol, lowed, and he, too, opened out, hitting two 6’s. Grimmer was caught at fine leg off Bell, and Cobden who followed, was bowled by a good ball from Tobin. Six wickets were then down for 104. M'Nish joined Blackaby, and at the luncheon adjournment the scores were as follows - CANTERBURY.—First Innings.
