The mayor (Mr W. B. Taverner) has received an intimation that two distinguished Australians will visit Dunedin early next month. The first of those is the Hon. W. Forgan Smith, the Deputy-Premier and Minister of Agriculture foi Queensland, who will airive on February -1. The Hou. T. R. Bavin, the Premier of New South Wales, will follow, arriving here on February !.). hi order to discuss ways and means of extending hospitality to the visitors iho Civic Committee met this afternoon.
Mt L. F. dc Berry, the new head master of the Normal School, Dunedin, was present at the meeting of the Education Board this morning, and was welcomed by the chairman (Mr J.Wallace), who wished him success in his new position. Mr Do Berry was introduced to the members of the beard. The new iiead master was formerly in charge of the Central School/ Palmerston North.

At last night’s meeting of the executive of the Dunedin Returned Soldiers’ Association a motion of sympathy was passed with the relatives of the late M>- A. Langford Mr Edward M'M.iMan, an old resident of Maori Hill, died suddenly yesterday whilst driving his carriers’ van along Highgato. Ho was an unmarried man, aged sixty-seven, known to pretty well aU the Maori Hill and Roslyn people, and was entrusted with a lot of carrying business. New visitors to the Grand Hotel include -Miss Jean Morrison (London), Mr E. S. Lutterell (Christchurch), J. W. Van Haveru (Auckland), Mr and Mrs R. F. Smith (Greymouth), Mr Edgar T. Shand (Kokonga). Recent arrivals to the Excelsior Hotel include Miss K. M. Tozer, Miss E, M. Tozer (London), Mr J. A. Milne (Auckland), Mr and Mrs W. G. Hicks, Mr F. Wildman (Christchurch), Mr and Mrs Macauloy, Miss Macauley, Mr J Macauley (Almirv), Mr A. Anderson (Timarii), Miss Mmsin (Hyde).
