Queen Victoria of Spain is sometimes accompanied by one of her daughters on her shopping expeditions. lam told that her refusal to be treated differently from other shoppers recently placed the Queen of Spain in a humorous position. After trving on a hat she asked if she could have it on approval. t “Only if you have an account, said the shop assistant, who had not recognised the Queen. Turning to her companion, Her Majesty asked: “Have I an account here? I don’t think I have.” “No,” said the lady-in-wait-ing; “but it can be put down to me.” The assistant repeated that “ Madame ” could only have the hat if she had an account, and the Queen smilingly said she would not trouble, but would call again next dav for the hat, a promise which she fulfilled.
