THREE-POTNT’ WIN AGAINST FRANCE. PARIS, January 22. The Waratahs defeated France by eleven points to eight. The weather was showery and the ground sticky. The visitors opened briskly and _ reversed the majority of their previous performances by showing their best form in the first half and failing to score in the second. 'Hie Australians had the better of the early scrums and line outs. The'Frenchmen were erratic, though they made a few hot-paced rushes, but could not score. Ford was the first scorer. Twenty minutes after the start he got a try which was not converted. The Australians pressure at-this stage was continuous, Towers and Wallace scoring tries in quick succession. Lawton converted the second one. The Frenchmen,-.with the score eleven to nil against them, rallied spiritedly, and a left wing movement resulted in Camel getting over for an unconverted try. The Frenchmen heartened, played with renewed energy and courage. Ross who was kept busy checked repeated attacks, the half-time score being eleven to three. Early after the resumption of play Dupont cut through and passed to Bonamy in front of the goal, the latter scoring and Behotguy converting. The crowds’ enthusiasm rose to fever pitch as the pace increased and play becapie rougher. Two free kicks were awarded the Waratahs, but Lawton failed to score. The Australians again took the upper hand, and many promis-ing‘three-quarter line movements were checked by the French full-back. SOME LIVELY INCIDENTS. PARIS, January 23. (Received January 24, at 9 a.m.) Among some lively incidents in the Waratahs’ match after the first half a Frenchman in the scrum twisted an opponent’s neck, and an Australian dealt out a right and a left to an offending opponent. Then the referee intervened and cautioned the Frenchman.
